Agreement and application license
These terms describe use of diskpress.app, DiskPress for Mac distributed through the Mac App Store and Setapp, and DiskPress for Files for iPhone and iPad, provided by Ighor July. By using the website or an application, you agree to the applicable terms. If you do not agree, do not use them.
The shared product guidance and responsibilities below apply to both apps. Licensing, payments, and access depend on your platform and where you obtained the app. Read the Mac App Store, Setapp for Mac, or iPhone and iPad section. These terms do not override the applicable distribution terms or any non-waivable legal rights.
What the apps do
DiskPress for Mac and DiskPress for Files use the same core for native lossless filesystem compression and APFS clone-based deduplication. You select supported local files, authorize locations, and configure settings. DiskPress for Mac also offers command-line operations and optional automatic monitoring. DiskPress for Files supports Apple Shortcuts on compatible iOS versions but has neither a CLI nor continuous folder monitoring.
In-place optimization changes a file's physical storage representation while preserving its logical contents and path. It may replace a file with a verified compressed or cloned version and remove the temporary original after successful completion. The iOS Compress File Copy action instead returns a separate copy and leaves the original untouched. Neither app is a backup service, archive manager, file-recovery product, or general Undo system.
Application bundles, executables, system locations, and other protected or unsupported targets are excluded. The iPhone and iPad app also excludes the Photos library and cloud or network-provider locations, including iCloud Drive. Processing a separate input copy does not grant access to modify its original provider location. App Archiver is a separate product for supported Mac applications and is subject to its own terms.
Your responsibilities
- Only process files you own or have permission to modify. Respect other people's rights and any applicable software, data, or organizational restrictions.
- Maintain an independent, usable backup of important data before optimization. Verification and recovery safeguards do not eliminate every storage risk.
- Choose locations and exclusions carefully. Prefer settled files, since optimization rewrites files and adds storage writes. On Mac, review initial results before enabling recurring or scripted work.
- Allow cancellations and recovery operations to finish. Preserve any material identified by an unresolved recovery message.
- On Mac, control any scripts or AI agents you authorize. Their commands can change file storage just as manual optimization can.
Do not use the website or apps to interfere with another person's data, evade access controls, infringe rights, or violate applicable law. These terms do not restrict activities that the law or an applicable open-source license expressly permits.
Results and compatibility
There is no guaranteed compression ratio, amount of free space, processing speed, or compatibility with every file and volume. Files may be skipped or produce no useful saving. Example screenshots and possible percentage savings illustrate outcomes, not a commitment about your device.
Deduplication savings are estimates of shared storage. Operating-system available space, reclaimable space, current measured savings, and recent optimization history are different measurements. Snapshots, filesystem accounting, and concurrent writes may affect the result you see.
Existing compression and sharing can remain after either app closes. Later edits, replacements, copies, updates, or third-party software may change or remove those savings. Current compatibility and behavior are described in the FAQ and the installed version's help.
Mac App Store version
License and purchases
DiskPress downloaded from the Mac App Store is licensed under Apple's Standard End User License Agreement, unless the App Store listing supplies a different applicable license. These website terms supplement, but do not replace, that license.
Apple processes Mac App Store purchases and applies its Media Services Terms. Check the listing for the current price and regional availability. No Setapp purchase or account is required to use this version. The website does not collect payment-card information.
Refunds and billing help
For an App Store refund, use Apple's refund request process. Eligibility follows Apple's policies and applicable law. Setapp does not manage Mac App Store purchases or refunds.
Setapp version for Mac
DiskPress on Setapp is a standalone app sold with a one-time payment. It is not included in a Setapp subscription.
License and continued access
For this version, the developer grants you a non-exclusive license to install and use DiskPress on Macs you own or control, within the access rights provided by your valid Setapp entitlement and subject to these terms. Apple's App Store license does not apply to this version.
Your Setapp account, permitted devices, and license are governed by Setapp's terms of use and the purchase offer you accept through Setapp. Activation and license checks may require internet access. The CLI and automatic monitoring do not bypass these requirements.
Purchases and refunds
Review the price and purchase terms shown by Setapp before buying. For Setapp payment or refund questions, contact Setapp support, not Apple's App Store refund service. Applicable provider terms and consumer law determine eligibility.
Files after you stop using DiskPress
Files already optimized use native filesystem features and remain readable by macOS without DiskPress. There is no proprietary format to unlock if you stop using the app. Later edits or copies can still change the savings.
Obtaining one version does not automatically license the other. Mac App Store and Setapp purchases are separate unless an offer explicitly states otherwise.
DiskPress for Files for iPhone and iPad
Availability and Apple license
DiskPress for Files downloaded from the App Store is licensed under Apple's Standard End User License Agreement, unless the listing supplies a different applicable license. These website terms supplement, but do not replace, that license.
Apple handles purchases, downloads, and updates under its Media Services Terms. Check the listing for pricing, compatibility, regional availability, and any purchase-sharing terms. The website does not collect payment-card information. Refund requests go through Apple's refund request process, subject to eligibility and applicable law.
This is a separate product from DiskPress for Mac. A standalone Mac App Store purchase, Setapp entitlement, or the Storage Saver Duo Mac bundle does not grant access to DiskPress for Files.
Storage Saver Trio includes DiskPress for Mac, App Archiver for Mac, and DiskPress for Files for iPhone and iPad. Check the App Store bundle listing for its included apps, current pricing, availability, and purchase terms. The bundle does not include the Setapp version.
Platform limits and background work
The app requires supported, writable local APFS files and the access granted through the system picker. It cannot optimize your Photos library, iCloud Drive, other cloud or network providers, installed apps, or protected paths. Some local folders may also be unsupported. The top-level "On My iPhone" or "On My iPad" location is not a target. Select a supported folder inside it.
There is no continuous folder monitoring or CLI. You can create and schedule workflows in Apple's Shortcuts app. On iOS or iPadOS 26 or later, the system may allow a run started in DiskPress to continue in the background. On iOS or iPadOS 27 or later, Shortcuts can also run authorized saved folders and subfolders in the background. The system may stop work or require an unlock. No uninterrupted or unattended completion is guaranteed. Keep needed files and recovery records available and follow the app's recovery guidance.
Shortcuts actions and separate copies
Actions to list saved folders and start optimization in DiskPress require iOS or iPadOS 16 or later. Background folder actions and Compress File Copy require iOS or iPadOS 27 or later. Review settings, exclusions, and permissions before running or scheduling a shortcut. A path alone does not grant access, and sharing a shortcut does not transfer folder permissions.
Compress File Copy returns a separate file without changing the original. Settings and exclusions can leave the copy uncompressed. Output is kept in DiskPress/Shortcut Results until you move or delete it, and keeping both copies can use additional storage. Other apps or providers may remove native compression when saving or sharing the result. This action does not guarantee retained savings outside the app or reduce storage used by the original.
Privacy and third-party services
File optimization works offline in both apps. The Setapp Mac version separately includes Setapp activation, licensing, and app-usage reporting. A failed application integrity check automatically opens a diagnostic webpage with a numeric check identifier in DiskPress for Mac only. DiskPress for Files makes no Internet connections and has no app analytics or telemetry. Reports are shared only when you choose to share them.
The website uses Plausible and hosting infrastructure. The privacy policy explains local app records, platform and store differences, website requests, and support messages. Links to Apple, Setapp, developer websites, and other services are provided for convenience. Those services have their own terms and privacy practices. Your chosen sharing destination, AI agent, or automation software also remains responsible for what it stores or transmits. Neither app operates those third-party services.
DiskPress, DiskPress for Files, and this website are not sponsored or endorsed by Apple. Apple, Mac, iPhone, iPad, macOS, and related marks belong to Apple Inc. Other product names and marks belong to their respective owners.
Warranties, liability, and consumer rights
The applicable app license and distribution terms for your version govern any additional warranty and liability provisions. Subject to those terms and to the extent permitted by law, the app, website, and explanatory information are provided "as is" and "as available", without a promise of uninterrupted availability or suitability for every purpose.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, overrides statutory guarantees, or reduces mandatory consumer protections, including any required refund or remedy. Any limitation applies only to the extent your applicable law permits. The website's explanatory content does not create a separate guarantee of storage savings or data recovery.
Updates, availability, and contact
The apps and website may change as macOS, iOS, iPadOS, filesystem behavior, and product features evolve. There is no promise of support for every future operating-system version or third-party workflow. Downloads, updates, and availability also depend on Apple or Setapp for the version you use.
These terms may be revised for future use. The date above identifies the current version. This revision clarifies that DiskPress on Setapp is a standalone one-time purchase, not part of a Setapp subscription. Revisions will not take away rights that applicable law protects.
