The short version

This policy covers DiskPress for Mac distributed through the Mac App Store and Setapp, DiskPress for Files for iPhone and iPad, and diskpress.app, provided by Ighor July. The iPhone and iPad app has its own section below. Apple and Setapp also have their own privacy policies, linked below.

Local processing and Mac app records

Both DiskPress for Mac and DiskPress for Files process supported files locally. Compression, deduplication, and measurements do not send your files to a server. The processing itself works without an internet connection. Downloads, updates, and the Setapp Mac version's activation and licensing are separate from that local work. Automatic monitoring is a Mac-only feature and also processes files locally.

Information stored locally on Mac

To do its work, DiskPress stores settings, saved locations, security-scoped permission bookmarks, file metadata and hashes used for optimization, savings measurements, recent savings history, Activity records, and recovery records in its local app storage. Activity and recovery records can contain paths and filenames. These functional records are not uploaded to the developer or attached to Setapp usage events.

You can manage saved locations and Authorized Paths in the app and clear the retained Activity list. Recent savings are stored separately from Activity. Do not delete recovery records or temporary recovery files while an operation or unresolved recovery is in progress.

Mac CLI and third-party automation

The CLI communicates locally with DiskPress. Its output may include paths, filenames, settings, measurements, and per-file results. If you pass that output to an AI agent, script, log service, or another program, that program controls what it stores or transmits. DiskPress does not provide an AI service or send information to one. Using the CLI does not remove the Setapp version's licensing requirements.

Application integrity diagnostics

The following integrity-diagnostic behavior applies only to DiskPress for Mac, not DiskPress for Files on iPhone or iPad.

If a production copy fails an application integrity check, DiskPress automatically asks your default browser to open a diagnostic help page before stopping. This also applies when the app is serving a CLI command. The URL includes utm_source=diskpress and a numeric utm_content value identifying the failed check. Older app versions used utm_source for the same numeric check identifier. It includes no filenames, local paths, optimization results, or per-user identifier.

This browser visit is subject to the website analytics and hosting described below. Plausible can count these visits by failure code to help diagnose damaged or modified copies. Normal use and errors optimizing individual files do not trigger this visit. Setapp's app-usage reporting is separate from these diagnostic visits.

Services you choose to use

Opening website or email links uses the service you selected. A cloud-storage provider, backup service, or automation tool you use may separately store or transmit files and records under its own settings and privacy practices. DiskPress's local processing does not change those services.

Mac App Store version

The Mac App Store build does not include the Setapp framework or an in-app usage analytics SDK. DiskPress does not report routine launches, menu interactions, or optimization activity in this version. The integrity-diagnostic webpage described above is a separate exception, not routine app telemetry.

No separate DiskPress account is required. Apple handles the Apple Account, purchase, download, and update services used to obtain this version. Apple may also process optional analytics and crash information according to your system settings. DiskPress does not process your payment-card details.

Apple's independent services are covered by the Apple privacy policy. Setapp's data collection described in the next section does not apply to the Mac App Store build.

Setapp version for Mac

DiskPress on Setapp is a standalone app sold with a one-time payment. It is not included in a Setapp subscription.

The Setapp build includes Setapp's framework, which initializes automatically and handles activation. It uses your Setapp account and license rather than a separate DiskPress account. Setapp and its payment providers handle account and billing information. DiskPress does not process your payment-card details.

Activation and app-usage reporting

Setapp processes licensing, device, usage, and diagnostic information. This can include device identifiers, operating-system and app versions, launch and interaction events, and performance or error information. These data support activation, service operation, troubleshooting, usage measurement, and payments to developers. See Setapp's privacy notice for its data categories, purposes, retention, sharing, and privacy rights.

The framework automatically records events such as app launches, foreground and background activity, and termination. DiskPress also reports a user-interaction event when you open its menu bar menu. This event does not include the files you selected, their names, contents, hashes, or optimization results. Setapp documents its event handling in usage reporting for macOS apps.

Local files and offline use

Your file processing remains local, but this version is not entirely offline or free of usage reporting. Setapp activation and license checks may require an internet connection. Usage reports can be stored while offline and sent after connectivity returns, as explained in Setapp's developer FAQ.

Setapp's reporting is distinct from the website's Plausible analytics. Blocking website analytics does not disable the Setapp framework. For Setapp account data and privacy requests, use the contacts and controls in Setapp's privacy notice. Contact the developer below for DiskPress-specific questions.

DiskPress for Files for iPhone and iPad

DiskPress for Files makes no Internet connections. It has no analytics or telemetry SDK, no separate app account, no tracking, and no file uploads. It does not include the Setapp framework or the Mac app's automatic integrity-diagnostic browser visit.

Local access and records

You choose supported local files or folders through the system picker. The app uses the permissions you grant for optimization and later access to saved locations. It cannot optimize the Photos library, iCloud Drive, other cloud or network providers, or protected paths. It does not continuously monitor folders. A Shortcuts action can process a separate local input copy without modifying its original provider location.

Settings, saved-location permission bookmarks, file metadata and hashes, measurements, Activity, diagnostic information, and recovery records stay in local app storage on your device. These functional records can contain filenames and paths. They are not sent to the developer. Device backups you enable are handled by your operating system or backup provider, not uploaded by DiskPress for Files.

You can remove saved locations and clear Activity in the app. Clearing Activity does not clear settings, recorded savings, or recovery records. Preserve any unfinished recovery material until recovery or support guidance is complete.

Apple Shortcuts and output files

When you use DiskPress actions in a shortcut, the workflow can receive saved-folder information, completion summaries, or a file returned by Compress File Copy. Folder information and results can include names and paths. DiskPress processes files locally and does not send these inputs or results to the developer.

A folder path alone does not grant access. Folder actions require access to a previously authorized saved location. Sharing a shortcut does not transfer your folder permissions. Review the information included in a shortcut before sharing it.

Compress File Copy leaves the original untouched and stores its separate output in DiskPress/Shortcut Results until you move or delete it. You choose which actions receive the output. Apple's Shortcuts app, other apps, and services in your workflow have their own settings and privacy practices and may store or transmit information. DiskPress's local processing does not control those later actions.

Reports and links you choose to share

Activity exports and diagnostic reports are prepared locally. They leave the app only when you choose to share them using the system share sheet. Review reports for filenames, paths, and other private details before sharing. The app or service you choose to receive a report handles it under its own privacy practices.

Website links open in your browser when you select them. Visits to diskpress.app are covered by the website analytics and hosting sections below. Contacting support is voluntary and is covered by the support section.

Apple's independent services

Apple handles the Apple Account, purchase, download, and update services used to obtain the app. Apple may process optional system analytics and crash reports according to your device settings. These services are separate from DiskPress for Files and are covered by the Apple privacy policy. The developer does not receive your payment-card details through the app.

Website analytics

diskpress.app uses Plausible Analytics through analytics.diskpress.app to understand aggregate website use and improve the site. Measurement includes pages visited, referral and campaign sources, browser and operating-system categories, device types, approximate location derived from the request, and clicks on outbound links.

Plausible does not use analytics cookies or persistent cross-site identifiers. Its analytics processing derives aggregate information from incoming requests and does not retain raw IP addresses in the analytics dataset. The website does not add advertising trackers or session-replay software.

Outbound-link events can include the destination URL, such as an App Store, Setapp, or developer-site link. The site does not attach your local files, app Activity, or optimization results to analytics events. For details of Plausible's measurement design, read the Plausible data policy.

The analytics endpoint is distinct from both apps. Visiting the website is not necessary for either app to optimize your files.

Hosting and browser preferences

The website is delivered through Cloudflare. Serving and securing web requests involves technical information such as IP addresses, request URLs, browser information, routing data, and diagnostic logs. This hosting activity is separate from Plausible's aggregate analytics. Cloudflare explains its processing in its privacy policy.

If you change the appearance selector, the site saves the value in your browser's local storage under diskpress-appearance. It is used only to remember Light, Dark, or System on that browser. It is not an analytics identifier. Clear the site's browser data to remove it.

On your first visit, the site can use your browser's preferred language to open a translated page. A localized link or your manual language choice takes priority. The site stores diskpress-language and diskpress-language-visited locally to remember the choice and avoid repeating automatic redirection. These values are not analytics identifiers and are not sent to the developer. Clear the site's browser data to reset them. If local storage is unavailable, automatic redirection is disabled and you can still use the language menu.

Hosting, analytics infrastructure, and email providers process information needed to provide their services. This policy does not promise a particular country of processing or a fixed provider log-retention period.

Support messages

If you email support@apptrust.app, the developer receives your email address, message, and anything you attach. This information is used to respond, troubleshoot, and maintain necessary support records. Share only what is needed and remove private paths or sensitive content from screenshots and logs.

Email support messages are kept only as long as reasonably needed to handle the request, maintain necessary records, or meet legal obligations. You may ask for deletion, subject to those obligations. Information you send for support is not sold or used for targeted advertising.

You can also use the support page to open a GitHub issue. Issues, comments, and attachments are public. GitHub handles that information under its privacy statement. Use email for private matters.

If you contact Apple or Setapp support instead, that provider handles your message under its own privacy policy.

Your choices and privacy rights

In either app, you choose the locations to authorize and can avoid sending optional reports or support information. In DiskPress for Mac, you can also disable automatic monitoring. DiskPress for Files has no continuous folder monitoring. Manage any shortcuts and scheduled automations you create in Apple's Shortcuts app. You can use browser controls or content blockers to limit website analytics. The website remains readable when analytics are blocked. These browser choices do not change Apple's services or Setapp's licensing and usage reporting.

Depending on the law that applies to you, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of personal information held by the developer, and to complain to a relevant data-protection authority. Contact the address below to make a request. Plausible's aggregate website analytics generally cannot be connected to a particular visitor, and the developer cannot access app records stored only on your device. For information held by Apple or Setapp, follow the rights-request instructions in that provider's policy.

Where a legal basis is required, necessary hosting and security processing supports operating this website, support processing responds to your request, and records may be retained to meet legal obligations. No claim about cookie-free analytics removes rights that applicable law gives you.
